Company Overview
At Furnished Quarters, we enable residents to stay differently. We provide a comfortable, fully furnished and equipped private apartment, plenty of helpful neighborhood information and 24-hour customer service. Because our services—including design, housekeeping, and maintenance—are in-house, we’re able to meet our residents’ needs quickly and consistently. While we consider ourselves first and foremost a hospitality company, we're proud to offer a distinctly residential experience for all of our guests.
Company History
Furnished Quarters was founded in 1998 by brothers Gary and Steve Brown. The Browns have been investing in and developing real estate since the early 1980's. Noticing the growing demand for corporate housing and furnished apartments in Manhattan, the brothers decided to convert two of their brownstone buildings into furnished rental apartments. The response to these furnished apartments was overwhelming.
Capitalizing on the Brown family's 85-year history in home furnishings, Furnished Quarters created a distinct design approach, unlike any other corporate housing provider. "Most corporate housing firms have standardized looks and packages throughout their inventory.” We wanted our interiors to reflect the buildings and city in which they were located", said Steve Brown, Chief Executive Officer, Furnished Quarters. "Our apartment interiors, while functional, are definitely urban and very contemporary. The Furnished Quarters' in-house design team is involved in everything from the selection of our housewares to the choice of down comforters. People recognize the design difference. Residing in our apartments, our guests get to live like locals, something that they can't experience with a typical hotel stay. It's why we use the qualifier, 'Stay different’ to describe the Furnished Quarters' experience."
To meet the demand for temporary apartments, the Browns furnished 50 additional apartments within six months. Understanding the market's need for a variety of neighborhoods and other building types, the brothers reached out to their network of real estate developers to supplement their existing inventory. Within the first year of operations, Furnished Quarters had over 150 apartments.
The company's reputation for quality customer service, along with the unique design of the apartments, helped fuel the Furnished Quarters’ expansion. By 2002, the company had grown to 425 apartments in more than 20 Manhattan locations. New Jersey and Massachusetts additions followed in 2006 to fill growing client demand in those markets.
Fast-forward to today, and Furnished Quarters is now the largest corporate housing provider in the Northeastern United States. Over 140 employees comprise the Furnished Quarters team throughout company offices located in Manhattan and White Plains, NY, Boston, MA, Fairfield, CT and Jersey City, NJ.
Furnished Quarters currently offers a spectacular selection of over 1,000 apartments in more than 65 buildings throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Jersey City, Hoboken, Connecticut, White Plains, Boston, and Cambridge. Additionally, clients have one-call access to over 40,000 furnished rentals worldwide that are sourced, vetted and managed by Furnished Quarters' Global Solutions team. In November of 2015, Furnished Quarters launched the Q&A Residential Hotel, with its first location in Lower Manhattan’s FiDi, satisfying the need for short-stay apartments with no minimum stay requirements.
The Browns continue to seek out opportunities for growth within the corporate housing and extended stay industry.
